The language proficiency requirement for English for students of the Scuola Galileiana is met with a B2 level in productive skills (oral production and written production) and a C1 level in receptive skills (listening comprehension and reading comprehension).
Students are required to achieve the necessary language level by the end of the fourth year as a condition for progressing to the fifth year.
In particular cases, and subject to prior approval by the Coordinator, the Director may authorize the achievement of a C1 level in French, Spanish, or German instead. In this case, students must attain a B1 level in English for productive skills (oral production and written production) and a B2 level for receptive skills (listening comprehension and reading comprehension). Language proficiency levels are certified by the University’s Language Center. For further details, please visit the Scuola Galileiana page on the University Language Center’s website.
In its meeting of November 11, 2014, the Board of Directors of the Scuola Galileiana adapted the regulation for foreign students. Two criteria were established: Italian is considered one of the possible language options (a B1 level in Italian is required in all cases); the student’s native language is excluded. Subject to these general criteria, the Class Coordinator, in consultation with the student, will adjust the proposal to each student’s individual situation.
For foreign students enrolling in the first year of the Master program, considering the difficulties they may encounter during their first year of study in Italy, the Board has decided that the language certification requirement will be postponed until the end of the fifth year.
